Maria Cecilia Reyes, PhD

assistant professor of media and communication theory at Universidad del Norte (Colombia)

I am a Colombian scholar and artist, working at the intersection of narrative, immersion, and learning. I hold a double Ph.D. degree in Digital Humanities from the University of Genoa (Italy) and in Communication Sciences from Universidad del Norte (Colombia).

My research focuses on interactive digital narratives, immersive technologies, and film theory. I am a member of the Association for Research in Digital Interactive Narratives (ARDIN), and Virtual Networking Manager of CA18230, the COST Action Interactive Digital Narratives Design for Complexity Representations. Artist-in-residence 2020-2021 at Schloss Solitude Akademie, and at Future Media Theaters Lab at the University of Skovde (2022).

During my career, I have worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Educational Technologies at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR-ITD); as a lecturer in digital storytelling and cinema; screenwriter and editor for cinema; creator of interactive VR projects; and as a radio producer at the Latin American Association of Educational Radio (ALER). I was Co-Creative Chair of the ICIDS 2020 Art Exhibition “Texts of Discomfort”. Screenwriter and editor of the documentary NIJOLE exhibited at FICCI, DOKLeipzig, DOCSBarcelona, and others.
